The AgFutures Team at the Food & Fibre Great South Coast IWD High Tea 

The AgFutures team had the pleasure of attending the Food & Fibre Great South Coast International Women’s Day High Tea in Warrnambool on March 22nd. It was great to see project partners Natalie Collard from FFGSC and Sam Andrews (WestVIC Dairy), and to speak to employers from across the region about the challenges and opportunities for investing in and developing the next generation of farm workers. 

 

Sharing AgFutures at the Careers Expo at Deakin University

On April 3rd and April 4th, the AgFutures team and project partner Food & Fibre Great South Coast will be co-hosting two webinars for young people, employers and employment service providers to learn more about the training and employment opportunities and to learn how to sign up for the pre-employment, training and job placement opportunities.

AgFutures Community of Practice and Community Launch event, Warrnambool, 21 March 2023

We were delighted with the enthusiasm and contributions from 47 local leaders from community organisations and representatives from Glenelg Shire Council, Warrnambool City Council, Corangamite Shire Council, Workforce Australia, Glenelg and Southern Grampians LLEN, South West LLEN, Department of Education, DemoDAIRY, Aurora Dairies and WestVic Dairy who attended the first AgFutures Community of Practice in March.

 

 The purpose of the Community of Practice (CoP) was to bring together community stakeholders from the Barwon South West region of Victoria to create visibility for AgFutures by presenting what AgFutures is, what the pre-employment and training would look like for a young person taking part and what the ambition is in community and nationally. Attendees heard from the representatives of the six AgFutures partners and members of the Youth Reference Group and Employer Reference Group.

'AgFutures at the Neil Porter Legacy/Midfields Careers Expo

The AgFutures team had its first outing to a careers expo on Wednesday March 1st 2023. Congratulations to the Neil Porter Legacy and Midfields for hosting such a great event. The AgFutures team is thankful to the SWTAFE team for sharing their exhibition space. The team enjoyed speaking with families and young people about the opportunity through AgFutures to be matched with a local employer to gain valuable experience while undertaking entry level training. You can watch the video that the event organisers produced to showcase and celebrate the fantastic range of exhibitors and highlight the great turn out of people interested in agricultural careers.

29 September 2022 The Andrews Labor Government is supporting 50 unemployed young people in Victoria’s South-West to begin a fresh career in the local dairy industry, under a new entry-level training program. Minister for Training and Skills and Higher Education Gayle Tierney today visited Rosemount Dairy in Southern Cross to announce a $1 million AgFutures Initiative which will provide vital training pathways for young people, while supporting the employment needs of the region’s dairy farmers.
